Aromatherapy is the practice of using natural (essential) oils to alleviate certain physical and psychological symptoms. This oil is extracted from flowers, bark, stem, leaves and other parts of a plant by a process of hydrodistillation. Research has proven that these natural essential oils are effective due to their anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, and other medicinal properties. Our medical practice administers essential oils through inhalation (via aromatherapy diffusers/candles) and also topical application through massage. The essential oils enter the body through the bloodstream after being absorbed into the skin (topical application) and the olfactory nerves in the nose to the brain (inhalations). They, then, affect the hormones and enzymes of the body to improve mood, induce sleep, relax the mind, and relieve chronic pain, and etc.
