Treating the Mind-Body Connection Using Complementary and Alternative Medicine

Who wouldn't love to have a therapeutic massage after processing troubling issues in a psychotherapy session?  WHAT A TREAT!!! Well, no need to leave the office, travel to a massage spa, and wait in the waiting room until your massage therapist is ready for you.  At Hayes Medical Integration, you are given the option to transition into a 20-min therapy session after your psychotherapy session. "Aromatherapy is the practice of using natural (essential) oils extracted from flowers, bark, stem, leaves and other parts of a plant to enhance psychological and physical well-being.  The inhaled aroma from these essential oils is widely believed to stimulate brain function."

According to WebMD, fragrances in the oils stimulate nerves in the nose.  Those nerves send impulses to the part of the brain that controls memory and emotion.  The result on the body may be calming or stimulating, depending on the type of the oil. The oils interact with the body's hormones and enzymes to cause changes in blood pressure, pulse, and other body functions.

The WONDERFUL aroma that essential oils add to the massage experience is just a bonus to their healing properties!
